The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 67 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections on Wednesday. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will contest from Ladwa, while other prominent candidates include Gian Chand Gupta from Panchkula, Anil Vij from Ambala Cantt, Kanwar Pal Gurjar from Jagadhri, Sunita Duggal from Ratia, Bhavya Bishnoi from Adampur, and Tejpal Tanwar from Sohna.

Haryana’s assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, 2024, with results to be announced on October 8, 2024. The deadline for filing nominations is September 12, followed by scrutiny on September 13. Candidates have until September 16 to withdraw their nominations. The current term of the Haryana Assembly ends on November 3, 2024.

Major political parties contesting include the BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party (JJP-ASP) alliance, and the BSP-INLD alliance. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 seats, Congress secured 31 seats, and JJP won 10 seats. The BJP formed a coalition government with JJP, but the alliance ended earlier this year.

In a notable first, senior citizens over 85 and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with a 40% benchmark disability will be able to vote from home.

Earlier in the day, the JJP and the BSP-INLD alliance also released their candidate lists. The JJP, BJP's former ally, and the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) announced 19 candidates.
