Dr. Shivdarshan Malik, a scientist, living in Medina village in Rohtak district of Haryana, has been producing cement, bricks and paints from cow dung for the last 6 years.nHe has also trained many people so far. Dr. Shivdarshan Malik holds a PhD in Chemistry. Even after the establishment of a "dung gas plant" in their village, a large amount of dung is either wasted or used only for making cow dung cakes. The village uses more cow dung gas than cow dung. As a result, the use of dung has decreased compared to the past.

India produces 33 to 40 million tonnes of manure per day. When Dr. Shivdarshan Malik while researching on cow dung, found that it has a thermal insulating material that can be used to warm homes in winter and cool in summer. In India, a mixture of clay and dung has been used for centuries for coating houses. After working as a professor for a few months at a college in Rohtak, Dr. Shivdarshan Malik joined the Renewable Energy Project in 2004 sponsored by IIT Delhi and the World Bank. In 2005, he worked on a UNDP project. In the meantime, he got the opportunity to travel to the United States and England, where he studied methods of building eco-friendly homes.

On his return to India, he started an in-depth study of dung and in 2015-16, he made cement from dung, gypsum, guar gum, clay and lemon powder under the name of Vedic plaster. He then set up a dung brick making unit in Bikaner, Rajasthan which employs 15 people. In Bikaner, three days training is also given on various items made from dung. Dr. Shivdarshan Malik makes three types of bricks from dung. These bricks are not baked in the kiln or use water in them.

After making cement and bricks, Dr. Malik also succeeded in making paint from dung in 2019. Dr. Malik has so far trained over 100 people from Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and other states. These trained people now make their living by making bricks and cement from dung in many parts of the country. According to Dr. Malik's claim, when he got a chance to meet Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, he praised him and encouraged him. Dr. Malik has been honored with Haryana Krishi Ratna Award. A Hindi website has reported about this.
