Hathras Road Accident: 6 Killed, 7 Injured After Double-Decker Bus Rams Eco Van on Yamuna Expressway

At least six people were killed and seven other were injured after a double-decker bus struck an eco van from behind on the Yamuna Expressway between milestones 141–145 in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3. The accident occurred at around 4.20 am.

Hathras SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said the bus was trying to overtake the eco-van at a high-speed and hit the van. A total of 16 people were travelling at the time of the accident. The injured were transported the nearby hospital, said Nath Sinha. 

"A call was received about an accident near the 141 milestone on the Yamuna Expressway at around 4:15 am. It was found that an Eeco van, which was going from Delhi to Dholpur, Rajasthan, was hit from behind by a double-decker bus going from Noida to Gorakhpur. A total of 13 people were travelling in the Eeco. They were rescued and admitted to the hospital. During treatment, doctors declared six people dead. The driver of the Eeco is safe...necessary action is being taken," said Additional Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kushwaha.

The bus driver and his conductor were arrested immediately and a case has been registered. The bus was travelling from Delhi to Gorakhpur, while the van was en-route From Delhi to Dholapur. The accident took place near Garhi Hariya village under the Sadabad police station area, according to Bhaskar English. Thirteen people were travelling in the Eeco van to Rajakhera in Rajasthan.

Out of the six deceased, four have been identified as Dinesh (50), son of Hotam Singh; his wife Sunita (48); Vijay Baghel (27), son of Sukhram; and his wife Pinki Baghel (26).
