Giridih (Jharkhand), May 18 Mobile towers in Jharkhand are increasingly becoming the stage for dramatic displays of love, defiance and emotional outbursts. In yet another incident resembling the iconic 'Veeru' scene from the blockbuster film Sholay, a youth in Giridih district climbed a nearly 200-foot-high mobile tower on Monday, demanding that his family arrange his marriage with his girlfriend, triggering panic and drawing huge crowds to the spot.

The incident took place in Motileda village under Bengabad police station limits in Giridih district.

According to locals, the youth, identified as Sanjay Rajak, climbed the tower early in the morning and declared that he would not come down until arrangements were made for his marriage to his girlfriend.

The sight of the youth perched atop the towering structure triggered panic in the village, with hundreds of residents gathering at the spot within a short time. Fearing an untoward incident, villagers immediately alerted the police.

Acting swiftly, a team from Bengabad police station reached the scene and launched a rescue operation. Police personnel, along with villagers and local elders, repeatedly appealed to the youth through loudspeakers to climb down safely. However, Sanjay remained adamant and continued to insist on immediate marriage.

The incident is the latest in a series of similar episodes reported from Jharkhand in recent days.

On Sunday, a woman in Gomoh area of Dhanbad district climbed a mobile tower demanding the release of her arrested boyfriend. A day earlier, in Nimiaghat area of Giridih, a married man had remained atop a tower for nearly seven hours, creating high drama and forcing police and local authorities into action.

Officials said this is the fourth such incident reported in Jharkhand within the last fifteen days, highlighting a growing trend of emotionally charged public spectacles that have become a major challenge for the police and administration.

After several hours of persuasion and coordinated efforts involving police personnel and respected local residents, Sanjay Rajak was finally brought down safely from the tower. He was later taken to the police station, where his family members were called for counselling and further discussions.
