Bengaluru, April 23 Former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karjol on Thursday announced that a major event is being organised to celebrate the completion of five decades in public life by BJP Central Parliamentary Committee member and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. He also announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the event and felicitate Yediyurappa on the occasion.

Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP state office, “Jagannath Bhavan”, in Bengaluru, Karjol stated that the event will be held in Chitradurga on May 9. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the programme and felicitate Yediyurappa, he said.

On May 8, a day before the main event, a grand reception for Yediyurappa has been planned at 6 p.m. More than 10 lakh people are expected to attend the felicitation programme, and teams have been formed to ensure smooth organisation.

He said that former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has dedicated 50 years to public life in the state. He has fought for farmers, ensured justice for the poor and marginalised, and worked for social justice. In recognition of his life and service to society, it has been decided to organise a felicitation programme.

Heads of mutts, former chief ministers, ministers, and other dignitaries from across the state are being invited. Writers, associates, artists, and people from various sections of society who know Yediyurappa will participate. Members of the public, including farmers, are also expected to attend, he added.

Responding to a question, Karjol said Chitradurga was chosen as the venue as it is centrally located in Karnataka.

He described Yediyurappa as a mass leader who built and strengthened the BJP in the state. Referring to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he said that unlike others who rely on support from others, Yediyurappa built the party through his own efforts, adding that the event is a people’s celebration.

He said: “The groundbreaking ceremony for the venue of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s felicitation event will be held on April 26 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will mark the beginning of arrangements such as setting up the stage, pandal, and other infrastructure for the programme.”

He said BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has been invited to the ceremony. MPs, former MPs, MLAs, former MLAs, Members of the Legislative Council, and Opposition leaders R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, among other dignitaries, are expected to participate.

BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said preparations are underway to celebrate Yediyurappa’s 50-year political journey in a grand and meaningful manner. He said people from all sections of society appreciate Yediyurappa’s contributions to the state.

He added that supporters from across the state are expected to attend in large numbers, making it a historic event. The programme is being organised with the participation of several prominent leaders, including Prabhakar Kore, Govind Karjol, and B. Sriramulu. The event logo was also released on the occasion.

BJP Yuva Morcha State General Secretary and MLA Harish Poonja, former MLA Anil Benake, State Secretary Sharanu Tallikeri, and former MLC Arun Shahapur were also present at the press conference.
