Dr Mayur Suresh is set to analyse the material gathered from his fieldwork and expand on it during his time at UNSW Law School commencing this month.

He will formulate a research project based on court trials in India, where villagers have been accused of orchestrating a social boycott and killing women they believe to be witches, informed the university.

The UNSW Sydney provides scholarships of $5,000 per annum for the duration of the programme to eligible students from India.

"UNSW provides an incredible study environment. As the home for innovation and entrepreneurship, we provide outstanding experiences for you to reach your full potential and build your future career," said Amit Dasgupta, Country Director, UNSW.

"UNSW Sydney is redefining the future through world-class research and innovation to tackle the world's biggest issues and challenges. The "'Future of Change' is a great opportunity for talented Indian students," he added.

A graduate from the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru, Suresh went on to study in New York at Columbia University.

He conducted preliminary fieldwork on witch-hunting trials in Jharkhand.

"I was glad I studied law, because it really expanded my intellectual, political and personal horizons. Not only did I learn new concepts, I also learnt their political and social significance," said Suresh.
