An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, March 17. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Krumhoora village of Zachaldara following information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

"Encounter has started at Krumhoora Zachaldara area of #Handwara. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," said Kashmir Zone Police. As per the reports, one or two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.  The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire at the security forces. Further details awaited

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary said on the Kupawara encounter, "Those behind conspiracies should know that their attempts to weaken India or Jammu & Kashmir will never succeed. The brotherhood of Jammu & Kashmir is strong; we stand united. Any act against the country will not be tolerated. If anything wrong has happened, those responsible should be punished accordingly."
