The Congress party has begun preparations for the state assembly elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has assigned key responsibilities to three senior leaders from the party. Kharge has appointed Lok Sabha member Tariq Anwar, former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu as All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior observers for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections with immediate effect.

A press release regarding these appointments was issued by the party's organization general secretary, K.C. Venugopal

These appointments follow a meeting of Maharashtra Congress leaders with the party’s top officials.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the dates for the Jharkhand assembly elections on Tuesday, October 15. The term of the Jharkhand Assembly is set to end on January 5 next year.

Currently, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leads the INDIA alliance government, with Hemant Soren serving as the Chief Minister. The coalition includes the JMM, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, and the Congress party. Jharkhand has a total of 81 assembly seats.
