Jammu, April 22 The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive security audit of the area surrounding the Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi district.

As part of the visit, the district Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mukund Tibrewal, inspected the area and the key police installations, including the Domail Checkpoint, Special Police Post Ikhni, and SPP Jhandi Morh, to assess the prevailing security arrangements and operational readiness.

He was accompanied by Additional SP of Reasi Iftkhar Ahmed, and Deputy SP of Pouni, Smriti Sharma. At SPP Ikhni and SPP Jhandi Morh, SSP Tibrewal carried out a detailed review of deployment patterns and operational preparedness.

He directed personnel to maintain a structured roster for daily area domination and long-range patrols. Emphasising the use of technology, he stressed optimising patrol mechanisms and strengthening engagement with local communities and Village Defence Guards (VDGs), particularly in remote and mountainous areas.

The SSP also reviewed infrastructure, availability of ancillary equipment and preparedness for night operations. During the inspection of Police Station Ransoo, he conducted a thorough review of critical sections, including the Malkhana, record room, lock-up facilities and other operational units.

Special emphasis was placed on accurate maintenance of records, proper storage and handling of case property and improving overall working conditions within the premises. He directed officers and staff to ensure meticulous documentation and systematic record management, underlining the importance of professionalism, accountability and adherence to established procedures.

The inspection underscores the unwavering commitment of Reasi Police to maintaining high standards of policing, strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring robust security preparedness. Reasi Police said they remain dedicated to the safety and security of residents as well as tourists visiting the district.

Police regularly check the security arrangements in Reasi district as the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is located in Katra town, which is part of the same district. Each year, lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country and abroad visit the shrine to pay obeisance at the deity’s shrine atop the Trikuta Hills in Katra.

It may be recalled that in June 2024, at least nine people were killed and 33 injured after a bus full of pilgrims was attacked by terrorists and it plunged into a gorge in the Reasi district.
