Jammu, Feb 17 Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday organised an awareness programme on new criminal laws for officers and jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

An official said that in a significant initiative aimed at enhancing legal awareness and overall well-being, Poonch Police organised an Awareness Programme on New Criminal Laws, Drug Abuse, and Stress Management for the officers and personnel of CRPF 38 Bn at District Police Lines (DPL) Poonch.

“The programme was conducted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch Shafket Hussain-JKPS to ensure that security personnel remain well-informed about recent legal reforms and are equipped to handle challenges related to drug abuse and mental health,” he said.

He said that during the session, DySP Hqrs Poonch provided an overview of new criminal laws and highlighted key changes in the legal framework, emphasising their impact on law enforcement and justice delivery.

“A special session on drug abuse addressed the rising concerns of substance addiction and its societal impact. Officers were briefed on recognising signs of drug abuse, preventive measures, and strict enforcement strategies to combat the menace,” he said.

He added that additionally, a session on stress management was conducted to help CRPF personnel cope with the psychological challenges of their duties.

“The officers and personnel of CRPF 38 Bn actively participated in discussions and appreciated the initiative taken by Poonch Police. They expressed gratitude for the informative sessions and emphasised the need for more such awareness programmes in the future,” he said.

He added that Poonch Police remains committed to conducting regular training and awareness initiatives to empower security personnel and strengthen law enforcement efforts in the region.

After the new criminal laws came into force throughout the country to replace the laws enacted by the British, there have been a number of awareness programmes in J&K. These programmes are aimed to create awareness among the law enforcing agencies, judiciary and the common citizens so that the people friendly laws are understood in the right earnest.
