The Karnataka government is planning to increase water prices in Bengaluru, according to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. He explained that water rates haven't changed since 2014, and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is losing money.

To cover these losses, BWSSB suggested raising the price by 7 to 8 paise per litre. However, Shivakumar, who is also in charge of Bengaluru's development, feels this is too much. He's considering a smaller increase of just 1 paisa per liter. The final decision will be made after discussions with city legislators.

This potential price increase is due to rising costs and the need to improve Bengaluru's water infrastructure. While the new rates will affect homes, businesses, and industries, the government wants to minimize the impact on residents while maintaining a reliable water supply.
