To maintain discipline, teachers often use various methods sometimes through persuasion, and at other times, through physical means. However, a disturbing incident from Karnataka has come to light where a teacher allegedly hurled a stick at a student in the classroom, resulting in the child losing vision in one eye a year later. The teacher, along with five others, has now been booked in connection with the incident. According to PTI reports, the incident took place on March 6 last year at a government school in Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district. At the time, the student, Yeshwant, was in Class 1.

Police said the teacher, while attempting to control the students, allegedly threw a stick toward a group of them. The stick accidentally struck Yeshwant in the right eye, causing serious damage. Initially, his parents were unaware of the severity of the injury. When Yeshwant’s condition began to worsen a few days later, his parents took him to an ophthalmologist in Chintamani. He was then referred to a district hospital for further treatment. After an examination, doctors at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru performed two surgeries on the affected eye in December last year. However, there was no improvement in his vision.

Seeking better treatment, the parents later consulted a private hospital in Bengaluru. After thorough evaluation, doctors concluded that Yeshwant had permanently lost vision in his right eye.Following this revelation, the boy’s parents, along with local residents, staged a protest outside the Batlahalli police station on Sunday evening. In response, a case was registered against the teacher and five others, including the taluk block education officer.
