Kasganj Mudslide: At Least 4 Women Dead, Several Buried as Soil Collapses in Mohanpura (Watch Video)

At least four women died, and several others, including children and women, were feared trapped below the soil in Uttar Pradesh's district of Kasganj near Mohanpura on Tuesday morning, November 12, after it collapsed when they arrived to collect the mud for construction work of National Highway 530. 

After getting information about the incident, people from nearby areas reached the spot and started the rescue work. The district administration team, police, and regional MLA Devendra Singh Rajput also reached the spot. The team removed the soil with the help of JCB. All the women were taken out one by one and sent to the district hospital.

The doctor at the district hospital has declared four women dead, including a girl. District Magistrate Mega Rupam and SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik reached the spot with the police force. The team is searching the spot to see if any other woman is buried.

Uttar Pradesh Mudslide Tragedy

A rescue operation is underway to pull out trapped people from the soil. According to the information, more than dozen women are feared to be buried under the soil. 

Kasganj District Magistrate Medha Roopam said nine women had been taken out of the mud and four killed in the accident. "9 women have been brought out, 4 of them were declared brought dead at the district hospital. Others are injured. Rescue operation was conducted very well here. We have checked the entire are with the help of JCB and the excavator. There is very little chance of anyone else to be trapped there," DM Roopam.

DM said that the incident occurred when the group of women came here to collect soil for their home work. "NHAI's work was underway here. We will definitely take action against whoever was negligent. It is being said that the women had come to get soil for their houses. We will speak with the women," Roopam added.

The deceased women identified as Saraswati (27) resident of Rampur police station market Kasganj. Ram Beti (27) resident of Kasganj, Prema Dev (36) resident of Kasganj and Pinky (10) resident of Kasganj.

Names of the people injured are: Maheshwar (42) resident of Rampur and referred to Aligarh for further treatment, Krishna (45) also refere to Aligarh. Prem Singh (30), Arjun (8) resident of Kotar and Hemvati (36).

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed officials to rush the injured to the hospital and get them proper medical treatment, said the official from CMO.
