Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday expressed optimism as early counting trends in Kerala indicated a lead for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Assembly election results 2026. He also warned that the trend could change at any time as the counting is still underway.
Speaking while vote counting was underway, Tharoor said Kerala remained a state with “strong political opinions”, but added that the trends so far suggested the UDF was heading towards a “comfortable majority”.
“We are a state of many strong political opinions, but a good, comfortable majority seems to be on the cards. So far, I have every reason to be happy, but we also know that last-minute changes could occur during the counting,” he said.
Tharoor said the state needed a change in government and policy direction, while stressing the importance of economic revival and investment-led growth. “I think right now we have got enough contenders. What matters now is that there should be a change of government, a change of policy and a revival of Kerala,” he said.
