A building collapse in the Jawahar Nagar area of Kota, Rajasthan, triggered panic on Thursday after nearly 20 people, including students, were feared trapped beneath the debris. The structure, which reportedly housed multiple restaurants, was situated in a crowded commercial locality, increasing concerns that several individuals may have been inside when the incident occurred. Rajasthan Minister Madan Dilawar termed the incident unfortunate and said he had spoken to the administration. He confirmed one fatality so far, while five to seven people were rescued alive and shifted to a nearby medical college hospital in critical condition.

Soon after the collapse was reported, police and emergency response teams rushed to the site and sealed off the surrounding area to prevent overcrowding and ensure smooth rescue operations. Officials said crowd control was necessary due to the location’s high footfall. Rescue teams immediately began operations, focusing on clearing rubble and identifying possible survivors. Ambulances were kept on standby as injured persons were pulled out and rushed for urgent medical care. Authorities said the exact number of people trapped remains uncertain, as rescue teams continue to assess the situation amid challenging conditions.

Rescue operations are still underway, with heavy machinery being deployed to remove debris cautiously. Officials emphasized that care is being taken to avoid further harm to anyone possibly trapped beneath the rubble. Teams are working systematically, listening for signs of life while coordinating with medical personnel on-site. The cause of the building collapse has not yet been determined. Authorities stated that a detailed investigation will be launched once rescue efforts conclude. Meanwhile, residents and commuters have been advised to stay away from the area as emergency and relief work continues.
