On Tuesday, January 16, the Supreme Court issued a stay on the implementation of the Allahabad High Court order appointing an Advocate Commissioner to inspect the Shahi Eidgah mosque in the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute case. According to a report from Live Law, a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta passed the interim order while issuing notice on a special leave petition filed by the mosque committee against the December 14 order of the Allahabad High Court. The High Court had allowed an application for the appointment of a court commissioner to inspect the mosque.

In December, the Allahabad court granted permission for a court-monitored survey of the Shahi Idgah, stating that the details would be discussed at the next hearing. However, during the last hearing on January 11, the High Court adjourned the discussion on the modalities of the survey of the Shahi Idgah complex, located next to the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple in Mathura, until January 17.

On January 4, the mosque committee moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the Allahabad High Court's order. In its plea, the mosque committee has submitted that the high court sought to have considered its petition for rejection of the plaint before deciding on any other miscellaneous applications in the suit.
