Searched terms such as 'Lalitha Karimnagar videos' and  'Lalitha viral video' started trending on social media sites after police in Karimnagar, Telangana, has busted a sextortion racket involving a married couple who allegedly extorted lakhs of rupees from over 100 victims.

The Karimnagar couple, identified as Lalitha and her husband, were taken into custody following a forensic investigation that unveiled several obscene videos used to threaten businessmen and rich individuals.

Operation and Modus Operandi

The investigation suggests that Lalitha targeted high-net-worth men through social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. After making friends on social media, she would invite them to the rented apartments in the Arepally area of Karimnagar.

Unknown to the victims, the rooms were fitted with hidden cameras. According to police, these cameras recorded intimate moments between Lalitha and the victim, which the couple then used as extortion and blackmail. The victims were allegedly told that the footage would be leaked to their families or uploaded to social media unless substantial "hush money" was paid.

Karimnagar Police Busted Racket

Karimnagar Police busted the racket after a local businessman filed a formal complaint. The victim had already paid Rs 13 lakh to the couple but approached the police when they demanded an additional Rs 5 lakh.

Upon raiding the couple’s residence, officers seized laptops, mobile phones, and luxury items, including a car and property documents, believed to have been purchased with the proceeds of the crime. Initial digital forensics indicate that as many as 100 men may have been successfully blackmailed over a three-year period, though some local reports suggest the number of "trapped" individuals could be significantly higher.

The couple reportedly turned to crime after their legitimate business ventures failed. They had previously operated a marble and interior decoration business which suffered heavy losses, leaving them unable to repay significant loans and monthly instalments on their flat.

"Instead of finding legal ways to recover from their business setbacks, the accused chose a path of criminal extortion," a spokesperson for the Karimnagar Rural Police stated. The funds extorted from victims were reportedly used to maintain a high-end lifestyle and settle outstanding debts.

Cybersecurity Warning: Fake Links and Fraud

In a secondary development, the Karimnagar police have issued an urgent warning regarding a "web of fake links" currently circulating online. Cybercriminals are reportedly exploiting public curiosity surrounding the "Lalitha viral video" by sharing fraudulent links that claim to show the footage.

Authorities clarified that these links are designed to install malware, hack bank accounts, and extract sensitive personal data. "All forensic evidence, including the seized videos, is stored securely and will not be released to the public," the police confirmed, urging citizens not to click on suspicious URLs related to the case.
