A woman identified as Tannu Singh died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow. According to police, she is believed to have taken the extreme step after her husband, Rahul Srivastava, jokingly insulted her by calling her a “monkey,” which caused her severe emotional distress.

Family members said Srivastava often made such remarks jokingly, but the comment left Tannu deeply upset. Tannu, who was passionate about modelling, was known to be sensitive about her appearance and career. The alleged derogatory remark is said to have pushed her into severe mental trauma, leading to the incident.

According to her, Tannu's sister Anjali, the family had come back home after a visit to a relative in Sitapur on Wednesday. After reaching home, they were chit-chatting together in a room, joking and talking, when Rahul reportedly called Tannu a “monkey,” which upset her and led her to move into another room.

Rahul Srivastava worked as an auto driver, stated that he, Tannu, her sister Anjali and her son Abhay had been joking together at home, during which Tannu was teased. After that, he went out to bring food. When he returned and asked Anjali to call Tannu, she found the door locked from the inside. After calling her name without any response, she looked through the window and saw Tannu hanging from a cloth.

Rahul and others rushed to the room and broke down the door, bringing down Tannu and took her to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police arrived at the spot after receiving information, took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem before handing it over to the family. Indira Nagar police have launched an investigation. Officers said the case appears to involve domestic violence and mental harassment. The accused husband, Rahul Srivastava, is being questioned.
