In a shocking incident, at a village in Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh, a man who had protested the sexual assault of his daughter was beaten to death with sticks and baton allegedly by his neighbour. Police filed a case against half a dozen people and arrested two of the accused.

According to Deoria Superintendent of Police, Shripati Mishra the incident took place on Friday evening when the father of the girl who complained of being sexually harassed went to the neighbour's residence and slapped him.

"The man slapped his neighbour who returned in a while with armed people. They beat the man who later died. Two accused have been arrested while efforts to nab the rest are on," the SP said.

A relative of the victim, Bhola Prasad, said: "The guest of our neighbour teased and molested the girl and her father complained about it and slapped the boy."

Family members of the angry neighbour started beating Bhola Prasad with sticks. He was later rushed to the hospital but died.

The incident took on Friday, amid the ongoing 'Mission Shakti Abhiyan' in Uttar Pradesh. The UP government launched a 6-month-long women empowerment programme "Mission Shakti" to raise awareness and tackle crime against women in the state.
