Imphal, Jan 21 Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday urged the people of the state to maintain peace and ethnic harmony and collectively work towards all-round development.

Addressing a gathering at the First Battalion of Manipur Rifles Parade Ground on the occasion of Manipur’s Statehood Day, the Governor said the day symbolises the state’s democratic aspirations, constitutional empowerment and shared collective identity.

He noted that Manipur is endowed with a rich heritage, vibrant traditions and a resilient people whose contributions in the fields of art, sports, culture and public service have brought laurels to the nation.

“As we observe this meaningful occasion, let us reaffirm our pledge to peace, unity and inclusive growth. May the spirit of this day guide us to nurture harmony across communities and shape a future of stability, prosperity and dignity for every citizen,” Bhalla said.

The Governor called upon citizens, especially the youth, to uphold peace, unity, harmony and the rule of law, while actively contributing to nation-building.

He added that Statehood Day should inspire every citizen to strengthen democracy through responsible action and collective resolve.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a message conveyed through a letter to the Governor, extended his greetings to the people of Manipur and said that since 2014, the Centre has worked with the resolve of “Act East, Act Fast” to empower the Northeastern region, unlock development opportunities and fulfil the aspirations of its people.

The Prime Minister said he firmly believes in the immense potential of the people of the Northeast and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to their inclusive growth and prosperity.

“I salute my sisters and brothers of Manipur for their remarkable courage and unwavering faith in peace and progress,” PM Modi said, assuring the state of the Centre’s full and steadfast support to strengthen its development trajectory.

Governor Bhalla said the Prime Minister’s message on Manipur’s Statehood Day was deeply felt by the people of the state.

He added that the Prime Minister acknowledged Manipur’s significant place in Indian history and praised its achievements in sports, culture and natural beauty, with the message being received enthusiastically across the state.

Recalling the Prime Minister’s visit to Manipur on September 13 last year, the Governor said Modi struck a special chord with children and people in Churachandpur and Imphal, where thousands gathered to welcome him despite incessant rain and adverse weather conditions.

“For his concern, support and caring gestures, the people of Manipur convey their deep gratitude to the Prime Minister,” Bhalla said.

Later in the day, the Governor inaugurated the monumental National Flag at Kangla Nongpok Torban in Imphal. This marks the first installation of a monumental National Flag in Manipur and is part of the Flag Foundation of India’s initiative to enhance national pride and the visibility of the Tiranga across the country.
