A video from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh has triggered widespread discussion on social media. To get a clogged drain cleaned, a woman devised a “dangerous” plan, raising several serious questions. According to reports, the woman claimed that her baby had fallen into the drain and called the administration for help. Following this emergency call, police and municipal teams rushed to the spot and immediately began a rescue operation. Administrative officials conducted a search operation at the site for nearly three hours. During this time, garbage and sludge accumulated in the drain were removed.

However, the investigation later revealed that no baby had fallen into the drain. This shocking incident was not an accident but a desperate attempt by the woman to resolve a long-pending sanitation issue. While the false claim has drawn criticism of the administration, it ultimately led to the drain—clogged for years—being completely cleaned. According to local residents, work that had not been done despite repeated complaints was finally completed because of this single act of drama.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online. Some users called the woman’s tactic “smart,” describing it as a reflection of public helplessness, while others highlighted the dangers of such methods. One user commented, “When citizens are forced to stage fake emergencies for basic civic work, it is both ridiculous and worrying. It would have been much better if the administration had acted without such drama.” Others referred to the ‘boy who cried wolf’ story, warning of future risks. They expressed concern that while work was done today due to a false reason, a real emergency in the future might not be taken seriously by authorities. Questions are also being raised about why the municipal corporation failed to keep the city clean despite having the necessary resources. The incident has once again sparked debate over governance and civic responsibility.
