On August 7, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Walsall Momin stopped the vehicle of Congress legislator, Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang, at Motphran for using tinted glasses without possessing exemption certification from the State Security Commission.

Momin, who appeared before the assembly's privileges and ethics panel headed by Nationalist Congress Party legislator Saleng Sangma, has verbally tendered his apology to the committee.

"He (Momin) has verbally tendered his apology before the members of the panel. However, the committee members were of the opinion that the officer (Momin) must tender his apology in writing," Sangma said.

Sangma said the officer will appear again before the Committee on Friday with a written apology letter.

Meanwhile, the ten-member panel has blamed the Superintendent of Police in-charge Traffic, Bikram Marak, for divulging in the public on the proposed action to be taken by it without knowing the reasons for the issuance of the summon notice.

"The issue has flared up in all the media sections including certain sections of the NGOs thus inciting and tarnishing the image not only of Marbaniang but all the members of the Assembly," H.M. Shangpliang, one of the members of the panel, told journalists.

Stating that Superintendent of Police in-charge Traffic himself has violated the privileges, Shangpliang said the committee will sit again to examine the actions against him.

Marbaniang had reportedly told the Committee he felt insulted by the action of the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
