Mehbooba Mufti, a leader from the People's Democratic Party and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has accused some groups of using the Holi festival to intimidate minorities. She believes the government is secretly allowing this to happen.

Mufti recalled celebrating Holi with Hindu friends in the past, emphasizing that the festival represents India's tradition of religious harmony. She expressed sadness that the festival, which symbolizes unity, is now being used to scare minorities. She urged people to recognize this issue and stand against divisive messages. Her comments come as North Indian cities have increased security measures because Holi is happening at the same time as the second Friday of Ramadan. To prevent religious conflict, authorities have increased vigilance, deployed forces in sensitive areas, and protected religious sites.

In Sambhal, a district where religious clashes happened last year, security has been further strengthened, especially with the reopening of the Kartikeya Mahadev Temple after 46 years. This reopening has made the area more sensitive, requiring extra security to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the nation a happy Holi, hoping the festival would bring joy, enthusiasm, and a stronger sense of unity among citizens. He stressed that the occasion should strengthen the spirit of togetherness in the country.
