In what comes as a big development,  the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will now step in and seek a report from the Maharashtra Government of Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The development comes after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called MHA requesting their intervention. The other reason which is touted is the irresponsible  behaviour of the Mumbai Police in the entire episode. While the MHA was not stepping in since law and order is a state subject, the clashes between the police of the two states and the alleged obstruction by the Mumbai police was brought to the Centre's notice by the Bihar Government. Following this, MHA is likely to seek a detailed report on Sushant's investigation from the Maharastra government.

Earlier, chief minister Nitish Kumar said if Sushant’s father K K Singh, who had lodged the FIR with Patna police, demands a CBI probe, his government could think of recommending it to the ministry of home affairs (MHA).Kumar said it was the duty of the Bihar Police to conduct an investigation and it was doing so. “Mumbai police should cooperate with Bihar police since a case was lodged by the actor’s father. Bihar police is investigating the case with full honesty and sincerity. The family should get justice,” he said. . Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Desmukh stated that there were only in favour of a probe by Mumbai Police and that there was ‘no question’ of transferring the case.  The statement came in the wake of increased criticism of Mumbai Police by leaders like Dr Subramanian Swamy, and Sushant’s family approaching the Bihar police, who registered a First Information Report against Rhea Chakraborty.  Sushant was found dead on June 14 at his Bandra residence the cause of his death is said to be suicide.
