Modi mentors BJP's women MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gave tips to the women MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on meaningful participation in legislative business and advised them how they can contribute in the policy making process.

"He met us in groups. One group comprised women MPs below 45 years. The other consisted of MPs who had earlier served as Ministers," one of the members who attended the session told .

"The Prime Minister shared his experiences which inspired everyone. Also, he gave tips on meaningful participate in legislative business," said another MP, adding that it was a mentoring session and there was a lot to learn from the Prime Minister.

The MP said that Modi also talked about parliamentary proceedings.

The Prime Minister has in the past held several interactive sessions, including with students, discussing various issues such as examination related stress and mobile games addiction.

Using technology, he has reached out to citizens and made them aware about various social issues. Last month, he wrote to all the village sarpanchs to take measures to make water conservation a mass movement.

The Prime Minister in his speeches has lauded the fact that a record 78 women MPs have got elected in this Lok Sabha. The BJP has a maximum of 41 women MPs with the most coming from Uttar Pradesh.

Out of the 11 women MPs from the state, nine belong to the BJP and one to Apna Dal while Sonia Gandhi is the sole women member from the state representing the Congress.

Among the big states, the BJP has six women MPs from Gujarat and five from Maharashtra. After BJP, the Trinamool Congress with nine women MPs has the second highest numbers.
