Mumbai, July 20 The current Monsoon season has claimed at least 59 persons in various rain-related incidents in Maharashtra, including 16 in the Raigad hillslide tragedy, even as the coastal Konkan region will get more rainfall this week, the State Disaster Management Department said here on Thursday.

The maximum fatalities have been reported from Raigad (16, and counting), Mumbai (12), Jalgaon (7), Buldhana (4), Washim, Yavatmal, Chandrapur (3 each), Beed, Thane, Bhandara (2 each), and one each in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Solapur, Nandurbar, Ahmednagar, Wardha, Amravati, and Gadchiroli.

In view of the wet conditions expected ahead, the SDRF has been deployed in Nanded and Gadchiroli, and the NDRF are stationed in Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Sangli in full readiness.

Major rivers like Jagbudi and Vashishth (Ratnagiri), Kundalika, Savitri and Patalganga (Raigad) have shot above the danger levels owing to the heavy rains.

The coastal Konkan regions were clobbered with heavy rains on Thursday – Raigad (198.0 mm), Thane (145.7 mm), Palghar (134.3 mm), Ratnagiri (129.2 mm), and Mumbai (99.0 mm). Other places that received good rainfall included: Sindhudurg (49.3 mm), Gadchiroli (42.7 mm), Kolhapur (36.8 mm), Jalgaon (33.9 mm), Satara (33.3 mm), Pune (21.2 mm), Buldhana (16.8 mm), Chandrapur (16.7 m), Nandurbar (12.2 mm), Nagpur (11.0 mm),

For Friday, the IMD has issued a 'Red' alert for Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Pune, and 'Orange' alerts for Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Satara.
