Barwani, April 3 In two separate tragic road accidents, two tribal youths lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries after their vehicles plunged into deep ravines in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh.

The first accident occurred late on Friday near Biliya Pani Ghat, close to Golagaon under Pati Police Station limits.

A car carrying five tribal youths, returning from Barwani to Semlet village, veered off the narrow hilly road and fell into a steep ravine.

Two youths, identified as Sakaria, died on the spot, while another, Ikram, died during treatment at a local hospital.

Pati Police Station In-charge Ramdas Yadav said the vehicle lost control, possibly because the driver dozed off or because the ghat road was in poor condition at night.

“The car tumbled down nearly 50-60 feet. Rescue operations were challenging due to the difficult terrain and darkness,” he added. The vehicle was going to a nearby village.

A second accident was reported in another part of the district on the same day, where a two-wheeler carrying two tribal youths skidded off the road and fell into a ravine, leaving both injured.

An investigation officer of Pati Police Station said these accidents highlight the vulnerability of hilly and ghat roads in tribal-dominated areas of Barwani.

“Most roads lack proper guardrails, reflectors, and lighting. We are urging the district administration to immediately identify black spots and install safety barriers. Speeding and fatigue are common causes in such remote areas. We appeal to drivers to be extremely cautious, especially during night travel,” he said.

Barwani, a predominantly tribal district bordering Maharashtra, has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent months on its winding hilly roads.

Poor infrastructure, overloaded vehicles, and a lack of safety measures are often cited as major reasons.

Police have registered cases and initiated investigations into both incidents. The injured youths are undergoing treatment, with their condition described as critical.
