Bhopal, Feb 27 Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday said that the state has witnessed 14 per cent growth in the renewable energy sector, increasing its share in total energy production to over 30 per cent in the past 12 years.

He stated that the state has emerged as one of India’s leading power-surplus states and is working towards environmental conservation, prioritising renewable energy expansion.

Chief Minister said that at present Madhya Pradesh has a power generation capacity of approximately 31,000 MW, of which 30 per cent is green energy.

Highlighting two major floating solar power plants established in the state - one in Rewa and another in Omkareshwar, Chief Minister Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh has achieved a new milestone in renewable energy production.

"Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to implement a technology-agnostic renewable energy policy. This policy provides investors with flexible and favorable opportunities to boost solar and wind energy, creating new dimensions in the energy sector," the Chief Minister said.

He further mentioned that stepping towards environmental conservation and the promotion of renewable energy, an initiative has been taken to develop Sanchi as the state’s first solar city.

"It will be based on the net zero carbon principle, where the energy consumed will be equivalent to the green energy produced. This project will serve as an inspiring model for the country and the world," Chief Minister added.

Yadav further stated that to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint in the country by 2070 and find alternatives to depleting fossil fuels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious target of producing 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.

"Madhya Pradesh is contributing with full dedication and commitment to achieving this national goal, and PM Modi himself has acknowledged the state's progress in the energy sector over the past decade during the inauguration of GIS-Bhopal," he stated.
