Mumbai Police arrest 45-year-old man in social media marketing influencers fraud case

A 45-year-old person was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the social media marketing (SMM) influencers fraud case by Mumbai Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Thane, Maharashtra.

A 45-year-old person was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the social media marketing (SMM) influencers fraud case by Mumbai Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Thane, Maharashtra.

The arrested accused person will be produced before the ACMM (Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate) court on Wednesday (today).

The accused person operated several portals that provide fake followers, views, subscribers, likes to profiles on various social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, said Mumbai Police in a statement.

"The accused person has suspected to be completed approx. 25000 orders resulting in lakhs of followers, views, like. His payment transactions were reflected in the investigation of the earlier arrested accused person named Kashif Tanwar," police said.

The Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh has constituted an SIT under supervision of the DCP Detection to investigate the matters of identity theft and Social Media Marketing Influencers' Fraud racket.

The SIT has so far identified 79 portals engaged in the supply of such fake followers, views, likes.
