The narcotics squad of the Delhi Police, here on Tuesday, claimed to have arrested 24-year-old man, identified as Shah Jamal, for allegedly peddling drugs and recovered 5 kg of ganja (cannabis) from him.

According to the police, on a tip off a trap was laid around Oak Silver DDA Park, near Jangpura Metro Station. Around 4 p.m, the team apprehended Jamal, a resident of JJ Colony in Narela (North Delhi), with a bag.

On search, 5 kg cannabis was recovered, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South, Atul Kumar Thakur. A case had been registered at Lodhi Colony police station under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he added.

Following the death of his father, who ran a provision store, Jamal wanted to make easy money and started selling cannabis, said a senior official. Involvement of Jamal had also surfaced in another case, he added.

Earlier on Monday, the special cell of the Delhi Police claimed to have arrested a drug supplier, identified as Sidharth, from Punjab's Hoshiarpur. He was a fugitive in the 3.5 kg heroin seizure case in Delhi and carried a bounty of Rs 50,000 on his head.

He had been granted three-week interim bail by the trial court in the case in December 2018. Sidharth jumped the bail, went underground, re-organised his syndicate and restarted trafficking drug, said Pramod Singh Kushwaha, DCP (special cell), in a statement.
