Srinagar, May 15 Continuing its crackdown on the drug peddlers, traffickers and narcotics abuse under the ongoing Nasha-mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, the Budgam Police attached residential properties of two drug peddlers on Friday.
The properties attached in the Chadoora area of Budgam are valued at Rs 80 lakh.
The police attached a one-storey residential house worth approximately Rs 30 lakh belonging to Ghulam Nabi Wani in Chadoora. The property was attached in connection with a case registered under sections 8/20/29 of the NDPS Act.
During the investigation, the police had stumbled upon 300 kilograms of poppy husk from the premises last year. Investigation further revealed that the property had been illegally acquired through proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking and was being used for storage, processing, and distribution of contraband substances.
In another case, the Budgam Police attached a two-storey residential house worth approximately Rs 50–55 lakh belonging to Mohd Hashim Raina in Hassipora Chadoora. The property was attached in connection with a case registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
More than 9 kgs of Charas-like substance were recovered last month from a saw-mill at village Kasermulla, Chadoora, during the investigation of the case.
The seizure of drug peddlers’ assets comes under the relevant provisions of the NDPS, which was initiated as part of the ongoing efforts to dismantle narcotics networks and target assets created through the illegal drug trade.
“We reiterate our firm commitment towards eradicating the menace of drugs from society and warn that stringent legal action shall continue against all individuals involved in narcotics trafficking and other related unlawful activities,” said the Budgam Police in a statement.
Notably, a state-wide crackdown is underway against the drug traffickers to make the Union Territory “nasha-mukt”, with the police also appealing to the local public to share information about any suspicious activity with the nearest police station.
