Guwahati, May 11 The National Cadet Corps has launched its first dedicated Basic Paramotors Course for cadets in the Northeast at Panikheti in Guwahati, marking a major step in expanding aero-adventure training among youth, officials said on Monday.
The course, being conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports, is currently training 50 senior division boy cadets drawn from different states of the northeastern region.
Officials said the training programme began on May 4 and will continue till May 19 under the supervision of qualified instructors from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports.
Director General of the National Cadet Corps, Lieutenant General Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM, visited the National Cadet Corps North Eastern Region Directorate on Monday and reviewed the ongoing training activities at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Paramotors Node in Panikheti.
During the visit, the Director General of the National Cadet Corps interacted with the cadets, witnessed live paramotor flying demonstrations, and reviewed the training infrastructure established for the course.
Officials said the training module includes ground handling, motor operations, flight theory, emergency procedures, and supervised solo flying exercises under strict safety protocols.
The initiative aims to promote aero-adventure sports among National Cadet Corps cadets while instilling confidence, discipline, leadership qualities, and decision-making skills.
Speaking during the visit, Lieutenant General Virendra Vats said, “Paramotors training gives cadets wings, literally and figuratively. It builds confidence, decision-making, and the ‘Touch the Sky with Glory’ ethos of the National Cadet Corps.”
He further stated that similar courses would be organised in the future for National Cadet Corps cadets from across the country, including girl cadets.
Officials said the inaugural course reflects the National Cadet Corps’ renewed thrust on advanced adventure training activities for youth and aligns with efforts to expose cadets to modern adventure sports and aviation-related disciplines.
The programme is also expected to encourage greater youth participation from the Northeast in adventure sports, while raising awareness of safe flying practices and specialised outdoor training.
According to officials, the initiative represents another milestone in the National Cadet Corps’ efforts to combine physical endurance, technical skills, and leadership development through experiential learning programmes.
