Patna, April 23 Political tensions in Bihar have escalated sharply after Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav criticised the state's law and order situation, alleging that "criminals have become Samrat (emperors)".
The remarks of Tejashwi Yadav triggered sharp reactions from leaders of the ruling NDA.
Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav hit back, questioning Tejashwi’s own credibility.
“Ask Tejashwi Yadav what he himself represents,” he said, dismissing the allegations.
Another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, also criticised the RJD leader, stating that Tejashwi had never been satisfied with Bihar’s law and order situation, even during his own tenure in government.
“Did he find the situation acceptable when he was in power?” he asked.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha declined to comment on the issue.
Since the formation of the new government under Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Tejashwi Yadav has maintained an aggressive stance, frequently targeting the ruling alliance over governance issues.
In a statement and a social media post on Wednesday, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that crime incidents have surged across the state, asserting that people no longer feel safe.
Citing a reported firing incident in Samastipur, he alleged that law and order has deteriorated significantly under the current government led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
He further accused the government of failing to control rising crime, including robberies in Vaishali, Patna and other places, and murders in Patna, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur and other districts, and questioned the administration’s priorities.
Tejashwi also took a swipe at the Chief Minister, saying that handling multiple departments may be affecting governance, particularly the Home Department.
In response, NDA leaders countered by invoking the “Lalu-Rabri Raj” era, seeking to question the opposition’s record on law and order.
With both sides trading sharp accusations, the issue of crime and governance is emerging as a key political flashpoint in Bihar, likely to dominate the state’s political discourse in the coming days.
