New Delhi, Feb 18 BJP's East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday inspected the infamous Ghazipur landfill site followed by a review meeting in the same in which the idea of roping in National Highway Authority of India was floated.

In the meeting, it was decided that on a priority basis talks will be held with all the ministries involved. Members present in the meeting also stressed upon the fact that NHAI should also be involved to resolve one of the biggest issues of East Delhi.

Speaking in the meeting, Gambhir said, "Getting the height of the landfill site down is my biggest priority and I would take every possible step for the same," adding that all stakeholders should work for the betterment of the people, rising above their political differences.

This meeting was attended by the EDMC Commissioner, EDMC Mayor, Joint secretary, Swatch Bharat Mission and officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Last year in October, the BJP MP launched a pilot project to solve Ghazipur garbage mess. He inaugurated a ballistic segregator as part of a pilot project to reduce the size and ultimately clear the infamous Ghazipur landfill.

Ghazipur landfill is Asia's biggest garbage mountain, that falls under Gambhir's parliamentary constituency of East Delhi. Locals have been demanding its removal for years.

On September 1, 2017, a portion of the landfill slid 110 metres across an area adjacent to the landfill. It slid to the Hindon Canal. As a result of the incident, two people died and five were injured.
