No democracy in West Bengal, says BJP leader Mukul Roy

BJP leader Mukul Roy on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government, saying that there is no democracy in the state.

BJP leader Mukul Roy on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government, saying that there is no democracy in the state.

He also raised questions over the role of police in not allowing the bodies of deceased BJP workers to be taken to the party headquarter. He said that the role of security forces was unfortunate.

Speaking to , he said: "We have been saying it for long that in Bengal, there is no democracy. There was so much violence during the Lok Sabha elections."

"Mamata Banerjee wants to create an atmosphere of fear by visiting different parts of the state. Just to create that atmosphere of fear, yesterday in Basirhat, their block president himself fired from his gun and injured five of our workers," he said.

"Our party wanted to pay tribute to the workers in our party office but Mamata's police stopped it. The way police behaved today is very unfortunate," he added.

He also said that while the cremation of killed BJP workers will now take place at their native place, the party will orgse a 'bandh' in Basirhat on Monday.

"The party has decided to take remains of the deceased to their native places for funeral and has called a 12-hour 'bandh' in Basirhat. On June 12, we will orgse the protest too," he said.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi also expressed his concern over the violent clashes between BJP and TMC workers in the state, Press Secretary to Governor Manab Bandyopadhyay said.

"Governor Tripathi is sad at the unfortunate loss of lives and properties of citizens. He extends his heartfelt sympathy for families of the deceased. He appeals to all to see to it that no violent incidents take place, and peace and harmony prevail in the state," Bandyopadhyay said.
