The Government Of India has now ruled out a new rule that passenger carriers with up to 8 seats will not carry a spare tyre. Instead, a standard puncture repair kit is a must.The Gazette of India also stated that provided these M1 categories of vehicles will have to carry a spare puncture kit, have to run on tubeless tyres might not be needing a spare tyre wheel. This will further help in reducing the further weight of the vehicle which adds to safety. The notification further said, For the purposes of this rule, tyre repair kit means an easy-to-repair kit stored in the vehicle, which in the incident of tyre puncture is used to seal the punctured spot in the tyre tread using specific sealant poured into the tyre along with compressed air.

The M1 category vehicle includes 8 passenger seats and one of the drivers. The tyre repair or the puncture kit will be standard in these categories of vehicles and in case of any puncture, these kits come in handy provided there is a sufficient amount of compressed air which can be filled in the tyre. Furthermore, These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (Seventh Amendment) Rules, 2020, and the vehicle categories M1 up to a maximum mass of 3.5 T and N1 manufactured after October 1, 2020, fitted with tyre pressure monitoring systems, shall confirm to AIS ? 154; as amended from time to time, till the corresponding BIS specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
