The protest, inspired by a similar sit-in against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Shaheen Bagh, is predominantly led by the residents of Muslim majority areas like Hauz Rani and Sangam Vihar.

As a precautionary measure, paramilitary forces along with personnel of Delhi Police have been deployed outside the park to ensure no untoward incident happens.

Women, along with their children, gather at the park everyday with posters and placards. Most of the protesting women said they have taken part in a protest for the first time.

When spoke to few of the protesters, most of them said they intend to be on an indefinite sit-in, till the Shaheen Bagh protest is on.

Rehana, 40, a resident of Malviya Nagar, said: "We are very angry with the decision taken by the Narendra Modi government. Most of the women sitting here are homemakers."

"We have come here for our rights. Why should we leave India?" Mumtaz Begam, a resident of Hauz Rani said.

Another protester, Abu Tabha 23, said: "I have never chanted slogans. For the first time I am doing so. I would spend my time on internet and Facebook. But now, I regularly watch the news on NRC and CAA."

In the site of protest, some children have set up a temporary library which includes books on India's freedom struggle.

At the same time, some controversial slogans like "Tu Hitler Ki Maut Marega" could also be heard besides the 'typical' ones like "Hume Chahiye Azadi... Azadi".
