In a video shared by NSUI State President Akshay Lakra, the vice presidential candidate of the NSUI, Ankit Bharti is sitting with torn clothes and blood flowing from his head. Bharti then alleged that some volunteers of the RSS' student wing had attacked him outside the College of Vocational Studies (CVC), when he reached there to campaign for the DUSU elections.
"Volunteers of the ABVP first thrashed me outside CVC, later they warned me not to enter the college and when I did not agree and entered the college, they thrashed me leaving my head badly injured," Bharti said in the video.
However, the ABVP has claimed that it had nothing to do with the incident and Bharti was actually thrashed by his own union men. "...the clash happened between vice presidential candidate Ankit Bharti and secretary candidate Ashish Lamba from the NSUI."
"The ABVP was not involved in the incident," an office bearer of the ABVP said.
The DUSU elections will be held on September 12. The voting will take place in two sessions - the morning session will be from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. while the evening session will be from 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Key parties in the fray are the Congress-backed National Students Union of India, the BJP-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and a left-wing student organisation All India Students' Association (AISA). Last year, the DUSU elections were won by the ABVP.
