The Nandan Kanan Express, traveling from Anand Vihar to Puri, was involved in a serious accident in early hours of Tuesday, March 4. The train, which was already running late, split into two parts shortly after departing from platform number one at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.

The incident occurred when the coupling of the sleeper S4 bogey broke down. As a result, the front portion of the train, which included the engine and six coaches, moved forward for about 200 meters, while the rear portion, which contained 15 bogies and AC coaches, was left stationary on the tracks.

The accident caused a stir in the DDU Junction control room, prompting railway authorities to take immediate action. Both parts of the train were carefully brought back to the station, with one portion stopping at platform 7 and the other at platform 8.

Railway engineers and technicians rushed to the scene, working under floodlights to assess the situation. The S4 sleeper coach, whose coupling had completely failed, was deemed unfit for further travel and was removed from the train. Passengers were then transferred to other coaches. After hours of effort, the two halves of the train were successfully reassembled, and the Nandan Kanan Express resumed its journey to Puri.
