In a tragic accident, one person died and 20 others were injured after a state-run bus carrying them plunged into gorge in Odisha's Koraput district on Saturday April 11. This accident took place in Sunki ghat section in  Pottangi block in the early hours. According to PTI, bus was en route to Visakhapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh from Bhawanipatna when the accident took place around 2 am near Panasamanagudi village.  

A bus accident on NH-26 occurred when the vehicle veered off the road at a sharp bend and plunged 40 feet, overturning in the process. Jambab Bihari, 40, from Balagaon village, Kalahandi district, died at the Pottangi Community Health Centre after being rescued in critical condition. Four other critically injured passengers were transferred to Koraput Medical College and Hospital, while two were taken to Visakhapatnam.

According to a front-row passenger, Bhagirathi Bag, the driver apparently fell asleep. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, according to Sunki police inspector-in-charge Chatrubhuja Nayak. Passengers were thrown around inside the bus, and one was trapped underneath.
