Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 A school teacher in Odisha's Sambalpur has been detained for allegedly making lewd remarks to a girl student, an official said on Thursday.

Two complaints were lodged against the accused, identified as Arun Kumar Joshi, at the Bareipali police station in Sambalpur district.

Sub-Collector Puspanjali Panda along with other officials on Thursday visited the school and held discussions with the girl and school staff.

"There was a complaint regarding sexual harassment. We have spoken to the complainant, and will take all necessary actions," said Panda.

The teacher allegedly made some lewd remarks at the school on November 26. The girl later informed her parents about the matter.

"We have detained the teacher after finding his prima facie complicity in the matter. However, a detailed probe is on in the matter to know the veracity of the allegations," said Pradip Kumar Sahu, sub-divisional police officer, Sambalpur Sadar.

Meanwhile, the principal has said that a case has been filed and action will be taken as per the law.
