An 18-year-old student died in an explosion in the Guptarbagan area of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Sunday night, the police said.

An 18-year-old student died in an explosion in the Guptarbagan area of West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Sunday night, the police said.

According to the police, the incident took place near Motibhaban School in the Guptarbagan area of Ward 17 of Bhatpara Municipality under Jagaddal Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Anurag Sau, a student of BA first year.

"Anurag was injured when he heard the sound of bombing. He was taken to Bhatapara State General Hospital but the doctor on duty informed that he had died earlier," the police said.

Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, voting is currently for the seventh phase of the state assembly polls in West Bengal. A total of 268 candidates, including 37 women are in the fray in this phase.

Polling for phases 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the state elections took place on March 27, April 1, April 6, April 10, April 17 and April 22 respectively. Polling for the final phase will be held on April 29 while the counting of votes will take place on May 2.
