Raipur/Korba, April 3 A young man was killed and two others were battling for survival after a high-impact collision between an SUV and a heavy trailer on the Tarda-Bharatmala road under the Urga Police Station limits of Korba district in Chhattisgarh.

The tragic incident occurred late Thursday night when three employees of a private company in Raipur were travelling from Raipur towards Korba, said officials on Friday.

According to police officials, the SUV rammed into the trailer near Tarda, resulting in severe damage to the vehicle. One occupant died instantly, while the other two sustained critical injuries.

Rescue teams had to use gas cutters to extricate the trapped victims from the mangled wreckage before rushing them to the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Arun Kumar Yadav, 27, a resident of Sunai village in Garhwa district of Jharkhand, police officials said.

He was an employee of a Raipur-based company for the past two years and had been married for just three years. He is survived by his wife and a child.

The injured persons are Chandra Prakash Yadav, 26, from Raipur, and Nagendra Sahu, 30, from Semra village in Dhamtari district. Both were initially admitted to the Korba Medical College Hospital but were later referred to Raipur due to the seriousness of their injuries.

“Upon receiving information about the accident, our team immediately rushed to the spot. We coordinated with local rescue services to cut open the vehicle and safely extract the victims. The injured were provided first aid and shifted to the hospital without wasting any time. A detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the collision, including examining speed, visibility, and road conditions at night,” investigation officer Rajesh Tiwari of Urga police station said.

The preliminary inquiries suggest the accident happened due to a sudden impact between the two vehicles, though the precise reason -- whether overspeeding, mechanical failure, or poor visibility on the stretch -- is still under probe.

“Such accidents on this highway highlight the risks of night travel on mixed traffic routes where heavy vehicles operate alongside passenger cars,” the investigation officer said, adding, “We urge drivers to maintain safe speeds and exercise extra caution during late hours.”

The Urga Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation. Authorities have appealed to motorists to remain vigilant on the Tarda-Bharatmala section, which sees significant trailer and commercial traffic.
