Pendra Accident: One Killed, 18 Injured as Maha Kumbh-Bound Bus Hits Truck on Chhattisgarh-MP Border

One person was killed and 18 others were injured when a bus carrying devotees to Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh rammed into a stationary truck on Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh border on Wednesday, February 19.

The incident took place between 6 am and 7 am near Kahairjhiti village, following which police personnel from Anuppur district in MP and Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in Chhattisgarh reached the spot, a police official told news agency PTI.

Pendra SDOP Shyam Sidar said, "A bus travelling from Raipur collided with a backdown trailer loaded with coal, that was standing at the Anuppur-Chhattisgarh border. Many devotees have been injured, and one has died. The injured have been referred to the Anuppur District Hospital... The accident happened because the truck was parked in the middle of the road... Highway patrolling is investigating the matter. The accident happened late at night..."

The private bus was carrying devotees from Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The bus crashed into the stationary truck, which had broken down and was parked on the roadside. The bus helper died in the accident and 18 other occupants suffered injuries, he said. The injured persons were admitted to the Anuppur district hospital. An investigation was on into the accident.
