PM leads nation in paying tribute to Sardar Patel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday led the nation in paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 69th death anniversary, as the Twitterati remembered contribution of "Iron Man" of Indian polity.

"Tributes to the great Sardar Patel on his Punya Tithi. We remain eternally inspired by his exceptional service to our nation," Modi tweeted. His post got 5.4K retweets and 32.5K likes.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla tweeted: "Humble tributes to the Iron Man of India, Bharat Ratna, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a significant role in consolidating India. His vision, conviction and life inspire us to work for the country above and beyond all considerations."

One user wrote: "Tribute to the first Home Minister of Independent India for bringing together 565 princely states to dream of a united India."

One post read: "Tribute to Sardar Patel on his death anniversary. His indelible contribution towards the integration of India post-Independence will inspire all Ind to work towards unity & integrity."

A user posted an old video clipping of the late statesman and said: "A rare oratory gem by Sardar Patel at the Calcutta Maidan, 1948. His impeccable clarity of thought and forthrightness during the entire speech, explains why he is known to be the Iron Man of India."

Another tweeted: "Let's salute the Iron Man.... Let's remember his unique service to our country Awhich will inspire the coming generations."
