Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated India's first-ever fully-automated driverless train operations on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro via video conferencing.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also attended the inauguration programme of India’s first driverless train on Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line & the launch of fully operational National Common Mobility Card on the Airport Express Line, via video conferencing.

During the inauguration programme PM Modi said,"First metro in the country was started with the efforts of Atal Ji. When our govt was formed in 2014, only 5 cities had metro services & today 18 cities have metro rail service. By 2025, we will take this service to more than 25 cities. The inauguration of the first driverless metro train shows how fast India is moving towards smart systems."

The Prime Minister went on to assert that for the expansion of metro services, Make in India is extremely important since it reduces costs, saves foreign exchange and gives more employment to citizens of the country.

Talking about the Common Mobility Card, PM Modi said it is a major step in the modernisation of the country."Wherever you travel, whichever public transport you travel in, this one card will give you integrated access," he confirmed.
