Just before Holi, the Uttar Pradesh government gave a major gift to women. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed a Rs 1,890 crore gas cylinder subsidy to 1.86 crore eligible families in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme. The subsidy amount has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of eligible women. CM Yogi launched this initiative by pressing a button at an event held at Lok Bhawan Auditorium in Lucknow.

Each beneficiary has received Rs 511 in their accounts as part of the scheme. The Chief Minister highlighted that, unlike earlier times when people had to pay bribes for a gas connection, the government has now provided free LPG connections to 10 crore families across the country. He also announced that free gas cylinders would be distributed during Holi and Diwali. CM Yogi said, “This time, Holi and Ramzan coincide, so all eligible beneficiaries will receive the benefits of this scheme.”

Women across the state have welcomed the subsidy distribution ahead of Holi, expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister. Speaking at the event, CM Yogi stated that the Ujjwala scheme, launched in 2016, has provided free LPG connections to 10 crore families nationwide, including approximately 2 crore beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh. He reiterated that the scheme continues to ensure that people can celebrate festivals without difficulties.

How to Register for the Ujjwala Scheme

The Chief Minister urged those who have not yet registered for the Ujjwala scheme to do so. He said that earlier, people had to pay bribes of Rs 25,000–30,000 for a gas connection and often struggled to get cylinders during festivals. He stated that the scheme aims to protect poor mothers from smoke-related health hazards and assured that no discrimination is being made in its implementation. He also highlighted that 80,000 ration dealers across Uttar Pradesh are providing free food to 15 crore people through 3.6 crore ration cards.

Rs 1 Lakh Assistance for Daughters’ WeddingsUP CM further announced that the state government is committed to the welfare of the poor, farmers, and daughters. So far, 22 lakh girls have received Rs 25,000 each for their education, while 4 lakh daughters have been married under the Chief Minister’s Group Marriage Scheme. From April, the financial assistance for daughters’ weddings will be increased to Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, after the board exam results, meritorious female students will receive scooties, and working women will be provided with residential facilities under the Ahilyabai Holkar scheme.
