The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has made it mandatory for all auto-rickshaw drivers in Pune city to wear a uniform and carry an identification card while driving. The decision has been taken to enhance the safety of citizens. The uniform will consist of a white shirt and khaki trousers, and drivers must display their identification cards while on duty.

Sub-Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale stated that strict action will be taken against those who do not follow the guidelines, as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The directive is part of a broader initiative aimed at bringing discipline and better visibility to the public transport sector.

Although it is a legal requirement for auto drivers under the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act, the RTO has observed widespread non-compliance among drivers, prompting this latest enforcement push. Bhosale emphasised that any driver found operating without the specified uniform and ID will be penalised accordingly.

The RTO has appealed to all auto-rickshaw drivers to adhere to the updated guidelines, stating that the measure is intended to create a safer and more organised commuting experience for passengers in Pune.
