Punjab tests first positive case for coronavirus

Punjab on Monday tested the first positive case for coronavirus in a person who returned from Italy last week along with his family, the state government said.

Chandigarh, March 9 Punjab on Monday tested the first positive case for coronavirus in a person who returned from Italy last week along with his family, the state government said.

"The man who returned to Amritsar from Milan has tested positive for coronavirus. He landed at the Amritsar International Airport via Delhi on March 4 along with his two family members," Principal Secretary Anurag Aggarwal told the media.

The patient belongs to Hoshiarpur town and has been hospitalised in Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he is responding to treatment along with his son.

Earlier, preliminary tests from his swabs sent to AIIMS in Delhi tested positive.

A total of 5,964 people with travel history to affected countries have been screened by the state Health Department so far. Ten persons showed symptoms of the virus as of Monday of which one tested positive.
