Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday visited Amritsar to inspect the site of the low-intensity explosion reported in the army area a day earlier, as investigations into the twin blasts in Punjab intensified. After reviewing the crime scene, the DGP held discussions with army officials regarding security coordination and precautionary measures in sensitive border regions. Addressing the media, Yadav said no organisation has officially claimed responsibility for the incident so far. However, he stated that investigators suspect the blast may be linked to attempts by Pakistan’s ISI to create unrest in Punjab around the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, raising fresh security concerns in the state.
He further added that police and army officials are investigating both blasts. Multiple teams of police officials are working on this case. Human Intelligence, Technical Intelligence, and Forensic inputs are being investigated. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that, prima facie, the explosion was of low intensity, and the exact nature of the device used in the blast will be determined in the forensic examination.

The National Investigation Agency had earlier stepped in to assist the Punjab Police in probing the back-to-back explosions reported in Jalandhar and Amritsar. NIA teams were deployed to collect forensic evidence, examine debris, and analyse CCTV footage from both locations. The first incident occurred near the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar around 8 pm, triggering panic in the area. A scooter parked nearby was damaged and caught fire, while shop windows and a traffic signal pole also suffered impact. Police identified the scooter owner as delivery worker Gurpreet Singh. Authorities said investigations are still underway to determine the exact nature and cause of the blast.
Investigators later reported that CCTV visuals captured smoke rising from the Jalandhar blast site along with a person fleeing moments after the explosion. Forensic experts, dog squads, and bomb disposal teams immediately cordoned off the area for evidence collection. A senior Punjab Police officer claimed that the Khalistan Liberation Army had allegedly taken responsibility for the Jalandhar explosion, while possible links to Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti were also being examined, reported TOI. Nearly three hours later, another explosion shook the Khasa cantonment area in Amritsar at approximately 10:50 pm, prompting the rapid deployment of police personnel, army officials, and bomb disposal units to secure the sensitive location.
According to officials, preliminary findings suggest that an explosive object may have been thrown at a boundary wall in the Amritsar cantonment area, causing visible damage. CCTV footage reportedly captured the moment of the explosion, while nearby residents said they were awakened by a loud sound late at night. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in either of the incidents, though both areas continue to remain under heavy security surveillance. The twin blasts have triggered sharp political reactions in Punjab, with opposition leaders accusing the Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to maintain law and order. Several leaders demanded immediate identification of those responsible and stronger security measures across the border state.
